Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) & Dr Hen: The Power of Animating Difficult Health Topics
November 14, 2019 – For the past three years, a unique presence from Singapore has been appearing on the world stage. Dr Hen, an animated anthropomorphic doctor, alongside a group of characters called The Hens, uses trust, compassion, humor, and honesty to open the doors to discussing difficult health topics. Dr Hen brings about an unprecedented use of animation in the social media context.
With the recent global explosion of STIs, it is even more urgent to raise awareness and encourage positive action. From November 18 onwards, Dr Hen addresses this epidemic, which is specifically prevalent among 15 to 24-year olds.
The creative team, made up of Singaporean artists and writers, engages Dr Hen to convey difficult health messages. Dr Hen’s voice touches upon critical and, at times, taboo topics including anxiety disorder, Down syndrome, immunization, suicide prevention, and diabetes. STIs are now joining the list. Popular on Instagram as @drhensays, Dr Hen is followed by a fast-growing, global audience in North America, Europe, and Asia.
About Hen.World
Dr Hen lives in Hen.World, a fictional world populated by the Hens: a quirky cast of gender-equal characters. The Hens live in close-knit, supportive communities, which help them deal with their various health issues. Dr Hen and Hen.World are the social voice of Halza, Singapore’s innovative, digital healthcare company, a member of the Nijkerk Group. The Hen characters can be found on the mobile social-medical solution, HALZA, specifically on Emoji Blast®.
